Friday trading has front month lean hog futures up triple digits in the front months. The CME Lean Hog index was $52.78 on Aug 4, after pulling back 14 cents. USDA’s National Average Morning Base Hog price for Friday was 33 cents stronger to $38.27. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value was $3.04 higher on Friday morning. Large increases for loins, picnics, and hams offset the $4.36 drop in butts. UN’s FAO saw a higher food price index in July. The index was up 1.1 points to 94.2 for the basket of global food prices, but meat fell 1.8% mo/mo and was 9.2% lower than July 2019. ­­­FI hog slaughter for the week through Wednesday was estimated at 1.830 million head. That is down 57,000 head from last week due to the Monday plant downtime and 20k below the same week last year.
